I have started a new blog at Salon. This will be essentially a meta safersex: an explanation of why I do what I do. I'm going to try and write a biography about how I've gotten to the point where I am a single parent, Directory of Internet Technology for Condomania, hobbiest at The Safer Sex Page, and survivor of domestic abuse.
I have said for quite a while, to myself, that when I had the strength I would put together all of the data I had in a record. I am confident that such a gathering of materials, my writings, emails, telephone numbers, identities of the officials involved, and other incidencieries related to those tragic events in 1997 when I set foot as a man instead of the boy I had been before that, will be nothing but an asset to me in my life. Their is the distinct possibility that I will grow as a result of going through this material and finally putting some perspective to the last 5 years of changes.
I'm going to reconstruct all my piles of paperwork from the courts, the social workers, my scribbled notes, remembrances at the time, the stuff I wrote about it in poems, emails, sessions with the therapists involved, the drugs I took, the sex I had, & the discoveries I've made, etc. etc. Intergenerational sexual abuse echoes in the decisions I made. Somewhere in this mess is the reason why I feel so compelled to "drop" sex ed knowledge & force full disclosure. Noone should have to ever deal with the kind of stuff that the women in my life have had to deal with.
So welcome!
Mitch has a great article about personal care assistant (PCA) facilitated sex. A must read. I have someone in my life who is paralyzed. Nice to learn there are options.
I was talking with someone today about the need to be ambidextrous in masturbation. "Quick before you lose the one you use learn how to love with the other!" It must be very frustrating to either have your body fail you in sex or to be intimate with someone who fits that. I think it's a very positive idea to have a specialized PCA educated to deal with sex & sexuality issues for the disabled. Is there some esoteric branch of sex therapy which covers this?
I wonder if Garp's mom thought she was doing the job of a PCA?
Just a few days after Scott Evertz, the Director of the White House Office of National AIDS Policy, is reported to have acknowledged, in reference to US AIDS policies, "I think there is a sense that our feet are being held to the fire, and they should be" the Bush administration is moving one gay bureacrat from the HHS office of HIV and AIDS policy to replace the current gay AIDS czar, Evertz. Some [I've lost the link] are saying this is a political move based on Scott Evertz's stand on condom usage.
Considering that AIDS is increasingly a women's disease I find it interesting that the Bush administration is filling these spots with gay men. I wonder if this is the carrot to gay organizations and voters for past idiotic Republican stances on homosexuality? Or is it a jab to the chin for the social conservatives to keep the middle in Bush's camp? Maybe these guys are the best for the job and their gayness has nothing to do with their appointments?
Any situation involving both sexually transmitted diseases and politics is bound to be highly interpretative.
Benny Hill, who died in 1992, was renowned for his risque sketches, with sex and squealing nymphets the constant theme. However, a biography claimed that he maintained a "firm distaste for sexual intercourse". His father sold condoms for a living.
After the World Cup matches last month the English apparently bought twice as many condoms as usual.
A few days ago I made mention of a gang rape in Pakistan. Rape is an extremely powerful lever for changing the world. It turns out that wordwide horror over this series of events has not quite been noticed by some American media. I wonder why ABC, as of this day, has chosen to ignore this story? Competitors like MSN, FoxNews, CBS & CNN are covering the story.
Pakistan is an allie to the United States in the "war on terrorism". For a number of reasons, one of which must surely be the existing alliance, it should come as no surprise that worldwide mores would effect the developments of this case.
"The governor of the Punjab Province, retired Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool, paid a surprise visit to the village of Meerwala Saturday to meet with the 18-year-old rape victim, Mukhtaran Bibi, local officials said."
The good people of the government of Pakistan, for whatever number of reasons, will bring schools, roads, electricity, & police to the rural area of Pakistan where the rapes occurred. Apparently the little boy, the girl's brother, was also raped for his pluck at having an affair with a women out of his class & I assume his age range. At least that was the initial story. The culprits in this case have said that he, the little 11 year old boy, raped the 30 year old women from above his class. But a doctor has examined the boy. The report said the boy was a "minor and incapable to meet the sexual lust of any opposite sex".
Given this it seems doubtful the boy had any affair whatsoever. Perhaps a friendship, to be sure, but no matter either way 4 men raped an 11 eleven year old boy and an 18 year old woman and as a result a village gets connected to the grid. Rape can be used as a political tool by politians whether they actually do the deed or not.
People can be very dangerous when it comes to sex. I have been feeling recently, based on the comments I've heard, like I'm going to be attacked because I wear the wrong set of swim trunks. Sometimes it feels as though we are just a footstep away from being a society where the Taliban would feel right at home.
Semen makes you happy. That's the remarkable conclusion of a study comparing women whose partners wear condoms with those whose partners don't.
