U.S. Stance Roundly Rejected by Delegations to Bangkok Population Conference
"The countries spoke one by one as they made clear their united support for the ICPD Programme of Action and their belief that this document does not promote abortion or 'underage sex'? the only two issues that the U.S. delegation allowed to seriously be discussed at this meeting.

Abortion: It's a Woman's Decision to Bear.
I've been thinking a lot about this myself. The use of both pro-choice & pro-life is very disingenuous. The choices inherent in abortion begin in the bedroom long before talk of abortion. Maxine does a good job of refocusing the issue away from the trash words and empty phrases. Bravo!

The strong economy, with its promise of improved career opportunities for young people, and welfare reform, with its constraints on the receipt of public assistance, may affect these behaviors, since greater educational and employment opportunity are linked to lower teenage pregnancy rates and birthrates.

So are you saying that the converse is true? When the economy gets bad and subsistance gets more difficult teenage pregnancy rates and birthrates go up.

Contraception is a basic health need for women. Yet today many private health insurance plans in the U.S. do not cover contraceptives.

This looks like a positive idea. It has struck me as extremely peculiar for quite a while that birth control pills when I was growing up were not covered as part of normal medical insurance. I have had this conversation with numerous female colleagues, friends, and family over years. I have been told that the inclusion of Viagra in medical insurance coverage has sparked a revolt among insurance consumers because of this apparent disparity.

Nice to see Planned Parenthood addressing this issue.

Amanda asks "Does a man still need to wear a condom if the woman is on the pill? There is no issue of diseases because we are each other's first and only; however pregnancy is the main concern. Thanks for you help!"

Amanda there is a period of time after you start taking the pill where your body is adjusting to it and may not be receiving the complete prophylactic effect. During this period, a safe bet is the first 3 months after you have started taking the pill, you should wear a condom in conjunction with the pill. After 3 months the full effects of the pill will have kicked in and you won't need to rely on the condom as backup.

Of course don't forget the pill is not a quarantee of results and you should be sure to coordinate this with a doctor. Your results may vary.

Unfinished Business

"Joel, do I need to start taking care of unfinished business and telling people that I love them and I'm sorry for all the evil things I've done?"

No, the Rapture's not coming, so feel free to continue to be lazy and inconsiderate towards others.
